About

Born in early-2000s Atlanta rap — named for the "trap" houses in its lyrics — and defined by 808 sub-kicks, skittering hi-hat rolls and ominous synths through T.I.'s Trap Muzik (2003), Gucci Mane and producers Shawty Redd, Zaytoven and Lex Luger. The EDM strain broke in 2012 when Baauer's "Harlem Shake", RL Grime and Flosstradamus pushed the drum template into festival sets.
