About

The dark-alternative club lineage that grew out of UK post-punk around 1979–82 — Bauhaus's "Bela Lugosi's Dead" (1979) is the usual ground-zero record, with Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Cure and Sisters of Mercy, and London's Batcave club (1982) as its scene home. In a listing this is the umbrella for goth, post punk, new wave, synth pop, darkwave and EBM nights, which in practice are programmed together by the same DJs rather than as separate rooms.
