Club shorthand for breakbeat-driven dance music — anything built on a syncopated broken drum pattern instead of a four-to-the-floor kick. As a scene label it points at the UK and Florida nu-skool lineage of the late 1990s (Adam Freeland, Rennie Pilgrem, the Bassrush orbit). NOTE: overlaps almost entirely with the separate "breakbeat" genre record here — worth picking one as canonical.
